Before you leave the UK
Set up roaming before you go
Before you go abroad with your TalkTalk mobile phone for the first time, please give us a quick call on 0345 172 0044 and we'll activate it for you. Calling this number is always free from your landline or mobile phone while in the UK or abroad. After that, you can leave your data switched on when you arrive at your destination and you'll be instagramming #beachfun selfies in no time.
If you've already used your mobile phone abroad then you should be good to go. But feel free to give us a call to double check.
Set up voicemail and know your security code
Before you leave the UK, call 121 from your mobile and follow the instructions to set up your voicemail and PIN code. Be sure to remember your PIN code as you'll need it to listen to your voicemail abroad.
Once you arrive abroad
Turn off automatic updates to save your data
Take a few minutes to go into your settings and turn off automatic app updates and automatic email updates. This will save your valuable data for far more important and fun holiday tasks.
Take advantage of free Wi-Fi
Restaurants, cafes, airports and hotels often have free Wi-Fi. Make use of it whenever you can, especially if you want to upload tons of great holiday photos or update any of your data hungry apps. But only connect to networks you trust.
Already on holiday?
Call us on +44 345 172 0044 from 8am to 8pm UK time and we'll do our best to activate roaming on your phone. It isn't always possible as you'll be connected to an international network.
We recommend that approximately 4 hours after speaking to us, you turn your phone off and on again.
Roam like at home
The new EU law that will save you money
The rules have changed, and now you can use your inclusive minutes, texts and data allowance phone exactly like you're at home when you travel to most of Europe. No worries, no roaming charges and no extra bills when you get home.
Discover which countries are included
For holidays and business trips you won't have to worry about extra charges. If you're planning on spending long periods abroad, charges may still apply.
Be aware of borders
If you're close to a border with a country that's not part of the EU please keep an eye on the network your phone is connected to. For example, if you're close to the Russian border in Finland your phone might switch to a Russian network. You would then be charged international call, text and data roaming charges for Russia. One way to avoid this is to turn off automatic network selection and manually select a local network.
